Treating Depression With Awareness

Depression, negativity, and unhappiness is a serious condition affecting millions of people's lives across the globe almost like a plague. Many times someone suffering from depression needs powerful medications or some sort of depression therapy or treatment is necessary to turn depression around. You can take some of the power back into your own hands regarding how you feel about depression.

You can control your own position and outlook concerning depression by practicing awareness and presence. Little by little, with practice you can turn your feeling hopeless, feeling powerless, and feeling depressed and overwhelmed into a feeling of optimism, hope, and happiness. Practice this little depression treatment exercise a little bit every day and see how your depression changes.

Awareness and presence can be a perfect depression remedy you can use at home to compliment to the depression medications or treatments you are currently using. This practice can also be a perfect compliment to alternative depression treatments. For that matter, we can improve how we feel about any condition or disease we are suffering from, such as depression by being aware of what we are feeling and finding the way to turn it around and feel good.

Everything starts within us, every treatment, every choice, every decision about how you feel or deal with depression or other health conditions or diseases. Every choice lies somewhere inside us, every answer lies somewhere inside us. You can feel better about depression if you decide to.

When you practice and develop being present, and using your faculty of awareness, an amazing thing happens, expansion and breathing room surrounds whatever condition or emotion like depression, unhappiness, or any other negative feeling we are feeling at this moment. We can temporarily step out of the drama and worrying about the past or future and just observe depression and feel how we feel about it. We can experience a moment of just being with and experiencing an emotion like depression, without getting consumed and carried away with it. You can just witness without judgment, how the depression or negativity floods over you, like something that is not completely a part of you. It is alive only as long as we feed it.

The depression is like a little monster, and what the depression feeds on is negativity. We feed the fire of depression with our negative thoughts and emotions. The cycle of feeling depressed and unhappy will never stop until we can turn our thoughts around, and find some soothing thoughts or some thoughts that bring hope or make us feel just a little bit better, help us see our way out of depression. You can continue to live with your depression and feel hopeless or you can make the decision to be depressed but hopeful.

You can turn it all around. I am not saying it is bad to experience depression or so called negative emotions. Every person on the planet experiences them and they are a natural part of life. I am just saying we need to realize when we experience those emotions such as depression or unhappiness, they are just signaling us that something is wrong or out of balance and to try to turn it around.

"Unhappiness or negativity is a disease on out planet". What pollution is on the outer level is negativity on the inner. It is everywhere, not just in places where people don't have enough, but even more so where they have more than enough. Is that surprising? No. The affluent world is even more deeply identified with form, more lost in content, more trapped in ego.

People believe themselves to be dependent on what happen for their happiness, that is to say, dependent on form. They don't realize that what happens is the most unstable thing in the universe. It changes constantly. They look upon the present moment as either marred by something that has happened and shouldn't have or as deficient because of something that has not happened but should have. And so they miss the deeper perfection that is inherent in life itself, a perfection that is always already here, that lies beyond what is happening or not happening, beyond form. Accept the present moment and find the perfection that is deeper that any form and untouched by time.

The joy of Being, which is the only true happiness, cannot come to you through any form, possession, achievement, person, or event - through anything that happens. "That joy cannot come to you- ever. It emanated from the formless dimension within you, from consciousness itself and thus is one with who you are."

Read these words on being present with depression and unhappiness a few times and let it sit with you, then come back to it and read it again in a few days and see if you have any more thoughts or insights. Practice being present with your depression instead of being the victim and reacting to it. Practice finding better feeling thoughts and ideas instead of stewing in your feeling of unhappiness and depression. If you are not in control of your life, your mind, your thoughts- Who is?
