Commit To Being Healthy

Choosing Health, Did You Ever Deliberately Commit To Being Healthy?

New Year's comes around once a year. It's the time to take a look at ourselves and clean out our old useless ideas, perceptions, and habits in order to make room for new growth and vitality, talents and skills, goals or lifestyle changes. Maybe you struggle with your weight and want to finally lose weight or start an exercise program. Maybe you would like to look better, feel better, have more energy and feel healthier. Maybe you would like to change or stop a bad habit like smoking. You may be looking to overcome some issue like depression.

Maybe you want to feel better about a condition that has plagued you for years, or just want to make a change for a better you. You might want to switch to a new diet, try yoga, or join a gym. Maybe you would like to change your body and gain some muscle and weight. It doesn't matter what condition you may want to change whether it be physical or emotional issue such as: lose weight, gain weight, learn a new skill, have a better relationship, earn or save more money, enjoy better health, take charge of your emotions, leave depression behind….. You just need to take the first step and make a conscious commitment.

I have been reading a simple, wonderful and interesting book my girlfriend started for her new year's resolution, called "A Year of Living Consciously, 365 Daily Inspirations For Creating a Life of Passion and Purpose" by Gay Hendricks. It is about making those conscious choices that lead to change. The following is an excerpt from the book.

"The journey of living consciously begins with a single moment of commitment, saying yes to the impulse within you that wants to grow, to expand, to embrace your largest possible self, to make your largest possible contribution to the world.

Saying yes does not mean you know how to handle each moment of the journey- and it certainly does not mean you ( or anyone else) know how the journey will turn out. What you do when you say yes to the desire to live a more conscious life is to create a field of possibility around you and within you. As a child, my obesity was a problem my family tried to help me with-from special diets to experimental growth-hormone injections. I found myself in my twenties still struggling with the same problem. One magic day I realized I had never made my own commitment to having a healthy body, so I took a vow to get the weight off- no matter what it took. Within a month, I'd lost almost thirty pounds, with seventy more coming off over the next year. It was never easy, but it had never been possible before. Now twenty-five years later - 6" 1' and 190 rather than 6"1' and 320, where I'd started- I'm more sure than ever that it was the first step that did it. That field of possibility, opened by thousands of people for thousands of years, often has the effect of making life seem richer and more exciting, but always know that the field was opened by your willingness to take that first step."

So whatever your challenge or obstacle may be that you are facing in your life right now, we challenge you to make that commitment for yourself to improve your relationship with it. Commit yourself to making a change. Commit yourself to health. Commit yourself to losing weight. Commit yourself to journeying from depression to happiness. Make an investment in yourself and commit to you. Buy or save for that item or book that is going to help improve your life. Stop for just once, and change your focus from what's going on outside of yourself, to what is going on with you and what you can do to help yourself. What can you commit to better yourself? What are you committed to well being or self defeat? The choice is yours, make a positive commitment for yourself right now. Only you can make that choice.
